Policy development

SEEBF provides a common voice on biodiversity issues in the South East – and advises regional policy makers on wildlife issues.

SEEBF is advising on the development and implementation of important regional strategies - such as the South East Plan and Regional Economic Strategy. The Forum aims to provide policy advice that is clear and unambiguous, and easily translatable into action. It builds on SEEBF's production of a spatial map of 'Biodiversity Opportunity Areas', which identifies the priority location for biodiversity restoration and creation at a South East England level. We hope that these areas are shown in the plan as they:

  • are an existing source of biodiversity;
  • include linked clusters of designated sites; and
  • offer the right conditions to create valuable wildlife habitats.

The benefits arising from this framework extend beyond wildlife and conservation. They will contribute to a better quality environment with enhanced public access and the health and exercise opportunities afforded by green spaces.
